The Character Models of NML
Hey hey, how are you today? Let’s talk a little bit and explore some of the Character Models of NML? đ All Game Characters were modelled during Milestone 01. What took more time was the textures, since we had many geometries to Unwrap and texturize. Actually, the models were pretty easy to make, since we decided to follow a design of very simple shapes and characters. This was one of our first decisions in Pre-Production. We decided that our game would be more focused on the environments themselves than the characters. We are a team of 3 guys, and only one of us can texturize. So, I think this explains why we decided by that.
All 3D Enemy Models were modelled by me, whilst all textures were made by Omar Gonzalez, our Artist. In the case of The Ocho, the 3D Model was made and texturized by Omar.
The Hero Cowboy
The Ocho is the Hero Cowboy of NML. The player will control him during the game. Texas Smith is the pilot of The Ocho, the Cowboy Mech. He has a very funny personality and wants to get more attention than other competitors. Texas Smith always wants to be the star. Texas Smith is sponsored by McBoro Cigars in the NML. Of all Mechs, The Ocho is the one with the best balance in his stats. He has a balanced and normal Speed and Health. As weapons, this Mech can attack using The Gatling, The Shotgun or the Revolver.

For the development of The Ocho, our biggest focus was with finding different ways to show his personality. He needed to be strong, bad-ass and, in the same time, funny. All his accessories and Mech Pieces reflects his own personality and attributes. We are really satisfied with the amazing job that Omar did. đ YEY!
The Enemies of NML
In NML the player will face 5 different enemies. Between those, two of them can be found with different behaviours, and one of them is the Boss.
All bots – with the exception of Fatvertiser – measure almost the same size. The enemies of the League Arena attack in waves, always trying to trap the player through the level sections. Their colours follow the same colour pallet and are directly represented as bots that are carrying the famous brands on their bodies. Their only objective is to kill the Mechs before they can achieve victory by killing the League Boss in the League Arena.
- SwarmBot
The SwarmBot is the most common enemy in NML. The player will face the first wave of SwarmBot in the first section of the Arena, and he will be present in all the other sections. The SwarmBot behaves like a bomb bot. By approaching and touching the player, the SwarmBot will explode, auto destroying himself and damaging The Ocho.

The SwamBot is one of the bots that has two different behaviours. The player will be able to face the grey and the blue SwarmBot. The difference between both is that the Blue SwarmBot can be used as a weapon against the other enemies, if the player kills him by distance and next to others. By shooting the Blue SwarmBot, he will increase his size until he finally explodes. By exploding, everything around will be damaged.
- BeeBot
The BeeBot is another enemy that is pretty common in the game. They will be always flying around and shooting the player using a machine gun. The BeeBots always try to be behind the SwarmBot, attacking by distance, and at some points they approach the player to do a surprise attack. They are fast and strong.

As the SwarmBot, the BeeBot also has two different behaviour. The second one is the Black BeeBot, or in another words, the Scary one. Different of the Red BeeBot, the Scary one will always run away from the player when he tries to approach them, making even harder to attack him by distance.
- WormBot
Present only in the Sand Area of the League Arena, the WormBot is the “surprise” enemy. By crossing the dirt area of the level and walking through the sand, the WormBot will always appear when the player least suspects. Stronger than the other bots, the WormBot will attack the player with a beam, and by been damaged in 33% he will hide himself in the ground again, only appearing some seconds later in another position.

- Â Laser Machine
The Laser Machines are the patrolling enemy of NML. Different from all the other Bots, the Laser Machine cannot be destroyed. The player will always need to avoid the Laser Beam that the machine emits. If the player is hit by the beam, his life will start to decrease very fast.

- Fatvertiser
The biggest and strongest enemy of the game, the Fatvertiser, is the League Boss of NML and the final enemy of the game. The Fatvertiser is two times the size of a normal Mech. He can be found in the last section of the League Arena, in the top and central platform. His colour follows the same colour pallet of the others enemies and his body is represented as a giant marketing spot. His only body movement is by rotating around him and, by doing that, he also moves the top central platform, modifying the fight strategy. His Main Weapons are the Machine Gun and the Flamethrower.

Fatvertiser’s texture will probably be changed a little bit, to better match with the other enemies and even with the Art Style that we are following with the game. But, for now you guys can have one idea of how the characters was made. All images above contain only Diffuse Maps.
